The history of Gerber knives

The legendary Gerber knives were founded in 1939 by Pete Gerber. Gerber Legendary Knives started in Portland, Oregon, but later moved its headquarters to Tigard, Oregon. Gerber was the first knife maker to collaborate with a custom knife maker. The maker of custom knives was David Murphy.

Some history of the Gerber family. They had their own advertising business in Portland, Oregon, in 1910 and they started out by sending kitchen knives to customers over the holidays. These knives became very popular and then the famous Abercrombie and Fitch began selling them in their catalog in 1939. Then they exploded on their own that same year and the rest is history of knives.

In 2003, they began generating revenues of $ 100 million and became the second-largest multitool sales leader in the United States.

Gerber has built a solid reputation in knife and multitool manufacturing over the years and in 1985 Pete Gerber was inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame at the 1985 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

They are also famous for their innovative designs and the materials they use to make their multitools and knives. This is a solid company that will be around for a long time.
