How to access the help of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the best companion to have. He is the Comforter that Jesus promised his disciples that he would ask the Father to give them. He is your present help in times of need (Hebrews 4:16), but if you cannot access Him, you cannot access help from Him. This article tells you how to access the help of the Spirit of the Lord.

If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, so that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he lives with you and will be in you-John 14: 15-17 (NIV)

Jesus replied: Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. – John 3:5-6 (NIV)

How to access the help of the Holy Spirit

  1. be a child of God

The Spirit of God can only be received by the children of God. This is because the world neither sees nor knows him – John 14:17. You need to be born of the Spirit of God;

  1. Be obedient

Keeping the commandments of Christ gives you access to the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that if you love him and keep his words, he will pray to the father and give you another Comforter, the Holy Spirit-John 14: 15-16. Being obedient to God attracts the help of the Spirit.

  1. thirst for him

Matthew 5:6 says that anyone who thirsts for justice will be quenched and justice is impossible without the Holy Spirit (John 16:8, 10). To thirst for justice is to thirst for the Spirit, the only one who can help you walk in justice.

  1. Being filled with the Holy Spirit

The baptism of the Holy Spirit fills you with the Holy Spirit – Acts 2:1-4. The Spirit of God comes and dwells in you in its fullness: with all its power, majesty, splendor, peace, glory and honor. Jesus is the one who baptizes (Luke 3:16), so ask Him in faith and He will baptize you with the Spirit of the Lord.

  1. always stay full

Once baptized you are not always baptized, you can sadden the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30). You need to go constantly to recharge yourself in prayer and in the study and ministry of words. The disciples always came back for more filling and never lacked access to the help of God’s Spirit (Acts 2:4, Acts 4:31, Acts 13:52)

  1. Be aware of their presence

God says in Hebrews 13:5 that He will never leave you nor forsake you and He can do it through His Spirit that dwells within you. You need to believe that the Holy Spirit is within you and be aware of this truth always. This helps you not to make him sad and gives you the faith to seek his help when you need it.

  1. Engage your help

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you anytime, anywhere and he will gladly do so. As his partner, feel free to talk to him and wait for a response. Matthew 7:7-8 says that you must ask and you shall receive. It is not by your strength or power but by the Spirit (Zechariah 4:6), so never hesitate to seek the help of the Spirit of the Lord.

  1. Give all the glory back to God

When you give glory to God for what he has done, you provoke him to do more. Therefore, never forget to give all the glory back to God for everything the Holy Spirit helps you achieve or accomplish. When you don’t return the glory to God, you draw a curse on yourself – Malachi 2:1-2.

I have learned over time that I cannot do without the help of the Holy Spirit. So, with his help I strive to stay full and wish daily to be filled more and more, because it means more deeds and blessings. I do not hesitate to ask the Spirit of God for help. When I’m writing, I need guidance or direction, or a better understanding, I engage it. Even when I am looking for anything, I ask Him. And every time I do and listen, I always get the help I want. This encourages me to commit to Him more often than not. You can too today.
