Gem therapy

Their rarity increases their value and only the richest and most powerful families could acquire and possess them; As an expression of this wealth and power, even men would wear gemstones on his person.

Along with gold and silver, these precious stones were part of the financial reserve of the ancient and medieval kingdoms. All the great rulers adorned themselves with rubies, pearls, and diamonds set in gold crowns and silver necklaces. Gemstones made a king stand out among his subjects and clearly project his wealth and power to them.

But there were other reasons for these precious and semi-precious stones. Each gem, due to its clarity of cut and inherent color, is supposed to transform the flow of natural light, which affects the aura (inner glow) around a person. According to astrologers and gem therapists, each person’s aura depends on the planetary positions in their natal chart (janam patri) and, to a lesser extent, on the way their personality develops. Any deficiencies in personality, career or relationship problems, or imbalances in body composition can be corrected by using the correct gemstone.

The kings of the past, in addition to battlefields and diplomacy, secretly resorted to magic and spells among themselves. These gemstones provide protection against such evil spells and rituals. Although those days are long gone, people still have great faith in the power and efficacy of gemstones in a person’s destiny and personality. Since there is no harm to others or yourself, and no laws (except common sense) are being broken, wearing gemstones for spiritual or religious reasons doesn’t have to be frowned upon. At different times I have been advised to wear, and have used, pearls, sapphires, and rubies, usually when things are not progressing at work or in relationships or when there is an unusually long period of illness.

Gemstones that are worn externally as earrings, necklaces, and crowns affect a person’s aura. The ancient Indian astronomer-astrologer Varahamihira compiled the Hora Sara listing the various gems and their properties and uses. This information has been supplemented by work produced in other cultures and is (claimed to be) supported by modern research on the chemical / physical qualities of gemstones. The stones advised by astrologers should be worn as rings, especially hollowed out so that they touch the skin, to be truly effective.

The following is a list of gemstones and their therapeutic value (with Hindi names in italics):

1) Pearl (moti) – A white stone that improves memory, cures eye problems, is helpful in treating tuberculosis, and provides peace of mind.

2) Emerald (panna) – A green stone that is said to cure heart problems, nervous system diseases, blood pressure, and nasal problems.

3) Hessonite (gomed): an orange-brown stone (hence the name go-medh or cow urine) that heals external burns and treats heartburn. It also helps to relieve aches and cool the body.

4) Ruby (mani) – a red stone that elevates a person’s status and makes him sociable and happy. It also heals rheumatism, stomach pain, and ulcers.

5) Coral (munga) – Also a red stone that is helpful in treating diabetes, hemorrhoids, blindness, impotence, and measles.

6) Blue Sapphire (neelam) – A blue stone that cures nervousness and mental disorders, meningitis, and treats kidney and bladder disorders.

7) Cat’s Eye (lahsuniya) – A yellow / gold colored stone is helpful in treating cancer at all stages.

8) Diamond (heera): a transparent stone that prevents the formation of pus and mucus, cures diabetes and STDs.

9) Yellow sapphire (pukhraj): a yellow stone that cures cholera and jaundice and is useful for treating throat and tooth disorders.

These qualities are not medically proven and their use depends on an individual’s belief. However, these stones should not be purchased or used simply by reading the list above. Gem therapists and astrologers are willing to loan gems for as long as they advise. Although it is obvious that many people are in this for the money, there are some reputable astrologers who will recover the stone once it has been used at no charge, while others will return money if the stone has not had the desired effect.
