A Christian Perspective on Kinesiology

A Christian Perspective on Kinesiology

Having worked in the traditional and alternative health field since the early 1970’s, I have seen many things that I actually saw the benefits of and things that I questioned the value of. However, nothing has impacted my own health or helping others with their nutritional needs as much as Applied Kinesiology.

I first saw Kinesiology at the Naropa Institute in Boulder Colorado long before I was saved. I saw and they did an apple tolerance test. When my arm went down during the test, I had a strange feeling, but I knew that as a child I never liked apples or did so well. I actually dismissed this later, when I became a Christian, as just another New Age crap, and denounced it along with all the other New Age religious stuff I had opened up to. I continued in the dietitian profession as a registered dietitian in clinics and hospitals, and did not think about it again until years later, as my own health was failing and traditional medicine was not helping me.

A born again Christian gave me a very thorough muscle test and I no longer had that weird feeling. In fact, he pointed out exactly what was going on and, in addition, he tried me with some herbs and supplements that worked better than anything else he had tried. At that moment I realized that the strange feeling he had was of someone who was not of God testing me and probably affecting me with spirits that were not of God. You see, my mom was really praying for me at the time. But I also wanted the Lord to reassure me that this wasn’t messing with evil spirits or anything that wasn’t from Him. We were buying a health store where the clientele relied heavily on kinesiology, and they expected me to continue to help them. the same way, so I really had to do some soul searching to make sure I was on the right track. A month earlier I had prayed a prayer of agreement with my pastor’s wife that I would find a job in the natural health field, and two weeks later this opportunity fell into my lap!

The Lord first began to deal with me about the physiology of the human body… the fact that it is electrical. Our heart and muscles contract from electricity…our nerve impulses are transmitted by electron charges through the synapses of our dendrites…sodium, potassium, magnesium and more have electrical charges and are transferred in and out of our cells by electrical charges. He also reminded me of the body’s meridians, which appear to be electrical current lines through our system. He also reminded me of lie detector tests that very objectively measure our electrical response to spoken words. I soon realized that this was just a physical property of the body and that the body could respond to stressors, substances and even words in a positive or negative way.

The Lord also reminded me of men who were not direct disciples of Jesus who were praying in Jesus’ name, and people were being healed. When the disciples asked Jesus about their right to do this, or the spiritual correction of him, Jesus replied, “Those who are not against us are with us.” I really continued to question as he attended more muscle testing seminars and teachings and learned about applied kinesiology as a branch of chiropractic care. What really confirmed for me that it was a valid informal response from the body and something that could be useful as a Christian to help others was a fall in a Holy Spirit meeting by Kenneth Hagin. He was prophesying, and in the middle of the prophecy he said, “electricity is the physical power of the body…the anointing is the spiritual power of the body.”

Since then I have felt open to the Lord using me in the area of kinesiology to help people with their health. I still keep an ear open to the Lord in case anything changes. I stand in word and prayer and submit to godly leaders to make sure I am on the right path and not distort or go wrong in the field of natural health. I feel that people should be careful who they go to for kinesiology, massage, chiropractic or any physical care, so that they are not subject to someone who is in contact with ungodly spirits.

I also believe that a Christian who is strong in faith should tell a healthcare professional that he IS a Christian, and that he will only use his services if they respect his faith and do not pray or communicate with anything while in his presence. Sometimes you find yourself in a crisis situation and you have no other choice for yourself or a loved one, but it’s amazing how God can take charge of a situation where a Christian speaks in faith and stands firm. Remember, love never fails! 1Cor 13

It’s also important to remember that kinesiology is like asking a child a question: you don’t get all the answers, it’s not a medical diagnosis…it’s simply an indicator of weak or unhealthy organs or systems in the body. stress, and what herbs, foods, or nutrients are most positive at that time to provide balance or nutritional support for the body to heal itself. Don’t throw common sense out the window when looking at the big picture of your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. It is my prayer that if you are questioning the safety or physical validity of Kinesiology, my testimony will put you at peace and in touch with the Lord and His healing path for you. He loves you well!
