What are the achievable goals?

We all have goals in our life and some are achievable and others may not be or that is what we perceive in this way. Is there an unattainable goal? I don’t think it exists and I don’t think there is anything that I personally cannot do, although I am a very strong-willed individual, with a lot of self-confidence and a tremendous amount of will and strength of character. I hope you are too, and if so, I give you permission to continue reading. If not, don’t waste your time; go read a different article.

Some people will say that all goals are achievable is a silly idea because some ridiculous and outrageous goals can be unattainable in certain periods of time in the blink of an eye. But that means they are neither realistic nor unattainable.

If a goal is unreachable, it shouldn’t be in the first place. Because if you have a goal in mind, then you have to go back from the moment you want to achieve this goal to the present moment and write down the strategic and quarterly objectives to achieve your goal. By looking at periodic goals and mile markers, you can decide if those goals down the road will require too much sacrifice for what you’re willing to do to achieve them. If so, that goal is unattainable for you and must be modified or removed.

Let me explain it in another way; A goal is a compilation of many small goals. For example, consider a goal in soccer. The ultimate goal is to score the goal. But to do this, you must have goals along the way.

  • 1.) You must train in the fundamentals
  • 2.) Choose a good team
  • 3.) Assess the skill levels of all players.
  • 4.) Place each player where he can do the most good.
  • 5.) Study your competition plays.
  • 6.) Prepare yourself mentally for the game.
  • 7.) Pass the ball down the field.
  • 8.) Beat the last player to get to the ball.
  • 9.) Execute the shot
  • 10.) Shoot past the goalie into the net.

You see, there are a lot of little goals, which have to be met before you can score the goal. If you are trying to earn a degree in college and your goal is to graduate, you will need small goals along the way, such as putting in as many hours of study per week, taking X number of exams, attending X number of classes, and completing as many units.

Now after breaking down your main goal into pieces, you need to decide if it is achievable and if you were willing to sacrifice to achieve the smaller goals along the way to reach the main goal. If you do not have the strength of character or the perseverance to achieve the intermediate goals, then that goal is not achievable for you and you must eliminate it or choose a lesser goal. What are the achievable goals; that my friend depends on you.
