The niches of a private investigator

The job of a private investigator is to unearth facts that reveal the truth not only for the abandoned lovers but also for the attorneys who hire them. However, there are other niche jobs for a person pursuing a career as a private investigator.

Entry into the IP business is generally obtained by working on the job as an intern for a reputable private detective agency or by having police or military investigative experience.

As a private investigator, there are several niches one can enter to pursue a career in this exciting business.

  • Retrieval of public records
  • Corporate Researcher
  • Subpoenas service
  • Skip track and trace

For an investigator involved in public records retrieval, a career can be made in retrieving court documents. There is a national association of document retrievers, and these investigators earn very good salaries by rummaging through local court records, obtaining documents for their clients, and investigating the civil and criminal records of certain individuals.

For a gumshoe working for a corporation, one can work for a company to conduct background checks as well as investigate employee thefts without being licensed in their state. For seasoned private investigators, a job as a corporate investigator would be ideal. This job can also provide a good experience for a novice researcher who is studying for their IP license.

Another job that does not require a state-issued license is the citation service. Depending on the state you live in, there is no licensing requirement for you to pursue a career in citation service. However, check with your state if there are any requirements. Sometimes the county sheriff’s office or the courts regulate citation servers and can tell you what it takes to work as one.

There are some private investigative agencies that specialize in bypassing track and trace only. These agencies require that you have a license to work in this field. Some agencies are dedicated to locating indolent parents. These agencies collect residual income from child support payments or alimony if the private investigation agency finds the father.

For professional investigators retiring from law enforcement or the military, one can find life outside of their old jobs in any of the niches described for private investigators.
