The best stationary bikes: tips to help you find the right gym bike

If you are seriously considering starting your own home gym, one of the most essential pieces of equipment that should definitely be included in your collection is the exercise bike. These machines simulate the cycling action of bicycles even when stationary. They look similar to regular bikes except they have bases that hold them in place.

Why an exercise bike?

A well-designed exercise bike provides a low-impact cardio workout that’s perfect for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. But don’t think that just because it’s low-impact, it’s ineffective. You will be surprised. Used correctly, exercise bikes are very effective at burning calories and getting your heart rate up.

The different types of exercise bikes

The upright type has a small raised seat and no back. The user sits on it with a straight back and vertical legs when pedaling.

The reclining type, on the other hand, features a larger seat and is positioned lower and parallel to the ground. Most units also come with backrests for the user to lean on while resting.

The semi-recumbent type combines the features of an upright and recumbent bike.

Finally, the ergometer-type bicycle works by measuring the efforts made by the user on the machine.

Tips when buying exercise bikes

Look for a bike with a wide range of resistance levels so you can use the machine for a long time as your fitness level increases. In addition, other members of your family can also use the machine even if they are at different fitness levels.

To avoid accidents when using the bicycle, look for one that has a comfortable seat, that has an adjustable seat in height and that is robust and strong.

If you can afford it, choose a bike that has a display panel that tracks your exercise course.
