Job fairs have been around for quite some time. The concept is simple: groups of companies or industries come together to showcase the latest jobs on offer, and people can walk in with their resumes and apply. Job fairs benefit both aspiring employees and prospective employers. There are different types of job fairs. Some cater to a variety of business types, while others are industry specific.
E-Health Insider held its second Healthcare IT Careers Forum in London last month. The annual event was held at the Russell Hotel and showcased a variety of career opportunities in the healthcare IT sector. Seminars were held throughout the day and industry advice was given by leading recruiting specialists in the field. There were approximately 200 attendees this year and 10 exhibitors.
The UK hosts a series of career fairs for postgraduate students looking to access internships, full-time jobs or training. The Guardian Autumn Graduate Fair gives university students and recent graduates the opportunity to meet recruitment agencies. There are opportunities within a variety of industries, as well as gap year alternatives for those who don’t want to rush into a full-time job. The event is held annually every October, in the old Billingsgate. Admission is free.
Another Graduate Fair is the science fair, held at the Imperial College. The fair is aimed at seniors, graduates, postgraduates, and pre-senior students. The next fair will be held on February 6, 2008. Fair participants will include recruitment agencies that specialize in the fields of science and technology.
If science and technology aren’t your thing, attend the University of Leicester fair, which is about Management, Finance and Business Information. The event takes place in the Queen’s Hall in the Student Union. The fair presents opportunities in business management and other financial and professional services. The fair lasts for a full day and will take place on February 27, 2008.

The Holiday Volunteer and Job Fair will be held at the University of Bath on February 7, 2008. A variety of industries offer part-time or short-term work for students looking to gain experience in their field of study.

This can serve as a short interview, allowing companies to gain additional insight into the personalities of aspiring employees.
