Failing to Plan and How to Write Small Business Strategic Planning Articles

Due to the economic pressures of the recession, many small businesses have gone out of business and it’s amazing how many “for rent” signs we see around town these days. Still, there are a number of small businesses that have weathered the brunt of the storm, and as we come out of this recession, they are left with great opportunities in the market. After all, most of your competition is no longer in business and there is more market share for them.

This means that with their long-term, loyal following of customers, they have a leg up on any new business starting up and capitalize on the increase in business cycle. Most of these small businesses have taken a pretty bad beating and haven’t considered all the expansion they need as recovery looms in the near future. They will need more capital to handle demand as they expand. If you’ll remember, during this last economic collapse, business credit became very tight.

Of course, as things pick up, credit will become easier to obtain, and small businesses that are still in business will have to expand to meet consumer demand. This provides an excellent opportunity for those writing small business articles on strategic planning. It’s time for all small businesses to know that “if they fail to plan, they plan to fail.”

In the past few years, I have written over 80 articles on small business strategic planning. What I’ve noticed is that many of the long-term successful companies in the small business sector don’t even have business plans, marketing plans, or strategic plans moving forward. Maybe they didn’t even have a business plan when they started their business. However, they made it anyway.

Some say that the success of a small business has a lot to do with luck and location, and while that is true, my opinion is that proper strategic planning up front can help you win the war; both in a rising economy and in a falling economy. This is something you need to convey to small business owners if you are going to write online content about planning. Please consider all this.
