Chinatown Singapore: A Look at Cultural Colors

Chinatown is one of the most colorful and interesting areas to visit in Singapore. It is steeped in the influence of Chinese culture. It’s fascinating to be able to take a walk and find yourself in an area suddenly unique in itself in an already unique country that is Singapore. Probably for this reason alone there are many hotels in Chinatown Singapore.

Several things you should check out in Chinatown are:

Architecture

The street architecture itself is a fascinating display in Chinatown. The store houses design elements from Baroque and Victorian architecture.

You will immediately notice the variety of colors, pastel colors to be exact.

Areas that would stand out are Pagoda and Temple street. You could easily go there and see what I’m talking about.

Goods

The best place to buy products made in China is in Singapore’s own Chinatown. Here you can buy those trinkets that would be a great souvenir for your trip. And if you have an appetite for more eclectic or prettier (and more expensive) things, you can also head to South Bridge Road for a cluster of antique shops.

Chinatown Singapore also has several shopping malls like People’s Park Complex, Chinatown Point, OG just to name a few.

food

There is a lot of Chinese food around. So help yourself when you’re there. If you’re looking for good cheap eats, head down Smith Street where there’s a row of smart stalls with a good atmosphere and decent food.

Of course, that’s not to say there isn’t a variety of European and other foods nearby, because there are plenty too!

Personally, I suggest you eat some Chinese grilled pork. Bak kwa as it is commonly known.

Accommodation

There are also many hotels in Chinatown Singapore, so accommodation is surely not a problem if you want to stay in this area.

Whether you’re staying for business or pleasure, whether you’re on a budget or money is no object, there are plenty of hotels to choose from.

Some of the well-known hotels in this area are Furama City Centre, Hotel 81 Chinatown Singapore, and New Majestic Hotel, just to name a few.

Of course, there are many others and if you are planning to stay in this place, you can also check the complete list of hotels in Chinatown Singapore. In this way, you will be able to compare rates and services offered by each hotel.
