4 Ways to Stay Motivated to Mend a Broken Marriage

WANTING to repair a broken marriage is not going to make a happy marriage. Most people with broken marriages don’t want it to be that way.

KNOWING HOW to fix one won’t make a good marriage either. Many couples have read lots and lots of books and articles on how to improve their marriage, but still suffer.

Unfortunately, taking the first steps to improve your marriage isn’t enough either. A marriage relationship is very complex and could take a lot of work and time to get back on track. This requires that you stay constantly motivated to reach your goal of a happy and healthy marriage.

In this article, I’ll show you 4 different types of motivational strategies to keep you and your spouse committed to mending your broken marriage.

1. Positive memories. When the going gets tough, take some time to think about something from the past that you’d like to recreate. The feeling right after getting married. The homey atmosphere at your parents’ or grandparents’ house. This kind of memory gives many people the push to keep going.

2. Positive dreams. For some people, the way to stay motivated in a difficult situation is to imagine a dream and work towards it. We were inspired by the idea that if we continually think about something over and over again, sooner or later we will achieve it. The world will conspire to give us what we really wanted. Coming from us too, when we think and dream of something, we usually work hard to make it happen. This is a good motivation to keep going in the midst of all the difficulties that arise.

3. Painful memories. For most people, remembering how bad the divorce of their parents, relatives, or friends was is a very powerful way to stay motivated to improve their own marriage. You can say it’s a bit tragic and traumatic, but most people I know who go through such painful experiences don’t want the same thing to happen to them. They find ways and means to make their lives one step better from the past or from those who are dear to them. They do not want bad events to repeat themselves.

4. Painful future. Thinking about how bad things WILL GET if you don’t get going is also a very powerful motivational strategy. Being a visionary often works like magic. When you think you can imagine that this will be the result if you do plan A, think again, you may want to consider plan B or other options. For someone who dreams of a better future, he has to work hard to cut short and make an easy path away from the painful events ahead. He plans it well and lets the painful future not be part of the picture.

Fixing your marriage can take a long time, and you’ll probably think about giving up halfway through. DO NOT DO IT! If you hold your ground, you will succeed in the end. Thousands and thousands of people have done it, and you can do it too. When the going gets tough, use these 4 motivational strategies to give you the strength to keep going. Don’t turn back, move forward for a better future.
