Turkey Rope Lifting: How To Do It

Have you ever found yourself in this situation?

You just cooked a beautiful 20+ pound turkey, and now is the time to slice and serve. But how do you get that bird from the cooking bag to the carving board?

Especially difficult is when you wrap that bird in aluminum foil. Now you find that the foil sticks to the bird and as you try to lift it up there is a great chance that a large amount of very hot and steaming turkey juice will cascade out of the foil and onto you and / or your floor. .

To do?

The most convenient method of moving a cooked turkey from its place on the foil to its place on the carving plate is by using a rope lift. While double carving forks can be used, the chance of dropping the steamed hot bird remains high. Wearing gloves is definitely out of the question too!

The answer is an ancient technique, known as the rope lifting technique. A String Lift is exactly what its name implies: a sling for lifting large, heavy and uncomfortable objects like a cooked turkey!

The String Lift acts as a protective sling, surrounding the bird and making it easy to lift and transport it from the cooking pan to the carving pan.

Commercial rope lifts are available, however in our experience most stores don’t sell the lifts because people don’t know about them, they don’t know how to use them, and as a result, commercial rope lifts are not a great seller. .

HOW TO MAKE A LACE ELEVATOR IN TURKEY:

Cut an 80 “length of heavy cotton butcher thread.

The knot ends together to form a loop. Put a single knot in the center of the loop.

Place the second figure eight knot 3 “to the right of the first knot.

Place the third knot in a figure figure 3 “to the left of the first knot.

Center the bird in the center knot.

Draw loops of string around and up over the birds’ wings and legs during cooking.

Use:

Unwrap foil from turkey breast and legs and wings.

Grasp a loop in each hand.

Gently lift the turkey off the sheet of aluminum foil.

Have a helper loosen any aluminum foil that is trying to stick to the turkey while you are hoisting it.

Move the turkey to the cutting board and position the Sling Lift away from the turkey.

It is not necessary to remove the elevator from under the turkey while cutting the bird.
