The importance of using smart marketing and business strategy in your business
Strategy is a term that is thrown around a lot in business, especially when it comes to marketing. Sometimes we use the word to the point of forgetting what it really means to have a strategy in your business.
Strategy is much more than what you are doing. Strategy is about knowing why you are doing what you are doing.
Instead of being the person in business who just does things because someone else told them to, you need to really think about why you’re doing it. What is the end result you are trying to achieve? Every time you start a project or start working on something in your business, if you do it with the end in mind, knowing why you’re doing it before you get too involved in it, your results will be dramatically better.
It is not the same to have a strategy in your business than to have a business plan. A business plan is what you take to the bank when you need a loan. The strategy is your action plan. It takes into account all the things you’re doing in your business, your email marketing, your direct mail, squeeze pages, and signups, and brings these media together in a way that allows them to work together to achieve your bottom line. When you have a strategy, you understand why you are doing these things and you know how to use them to achieve your goal.
If you’re thinking this is just more work, it’s necessarily more work. It sure can be more fun.
Having a strategy will help you get a better idea of what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, how you’re going to do it, and set a time expectation to see results. It takes the guesswork out of your marketing and gives you time to take more time off and enjoy your life more.
And having a strategy doesn’t mean you can’t be spontaneous. It’s an action plan that doesn’t have to make you feel like you’re stuck in concrete. But when you have a new product or service, you really need to think about the campaigns you’ll use to market that program to get the results you want.
Remember, you can throw mud on a wall and hope something will stick, but that costs money and time. Having a strategy is like having the recipe for the slime that you know will stick every time. In the end, having a strategy will save you time and money, and will produce more of the results you want.
