The benefits of Reiki during pregnancy
While I appreciate all of my clients, I hold an especially special place in my heart for prenatal and pediatric services. Babies, in or out of the womb, love Reiki. They respond immediately to the touch of the Reiki practitioner’s warm hand. It is an incredible feeling to be administering Reiki and to feel the baby moving and kicking as if to say, ‘Give me more, please.’ Every time, I’m like a kid in a candy store on Christmas morning. Reiki is safe during pregnancy and the birthing process. The benefits of it extend to both mom and baby. As I work on all seven chakras during a Reiki session, there are a couple of chakras that I pay special attention to:
Third Eye-Among the brown. It rules the pineal gland, the brain, the eyes, the ears and the nose. Intuition, extrasensory perception and psychic abilities.
Solar plexus: under the rib cage. Stomach, liver, pancreas. Willpower, self-esteem, self-confidence
Sacro-Sits below the umbilicus (navel). It regulates our reproductive organs, kidneys, adrenals, bladder and lymphatic system. Emotions also settle in the sacrum.
In my experience, unbalanced energy tends to settle in the aforementioned chakras. During the treatment process, additional Reiki administration along with other tools such as crystals, sound, and guided imagery allow the client to have a more complete healing experience.
Women who are pregnant for the first time often show new pregnancy nerves. Both are ecstatic, but sometimes they feel like they are traveling into the unknown. In the first trimester of pregnancy, the most common complaints are morning sickness and fatigue. The stress that this generates in the body can cause an imbalance between the mother and the baby. Reiki can help calm feelings of nausea and tiredness. The second trimester is when women report that their morning sickness has subsided and they notice an increase in their energy levels. Once they move into the third trimester, some of the aches and pains along with the fatigue may return. I find that administering Reiki to areas such as the lower back, hips, knees, and ankles provides additional relief. Swelling can occur and joints in general seem to take on more with the ever-changing pregnancy body. Releasing stored energy reduces swelling and allows for greater flexibility and ease of movement. A customer came in with swollen ankles. She couldn’t wear shoes and was quite uncomfortable (she used the word miserable).
As part of her Reiki session, I focused more on her joints. I followed up with her 2 days later, and she reported that her swelling was almost gone and he was back to wearing her favorite shoes of hers. As we get closer to ‘D-day’, women will come more often for Reiki sessions. They are getting anxious about giving birth and are ready to meet the bundle of joy from her.
Because I am based in a chiropractic setting, we have had many moms come in for their adjustment, a Reiki session, and shortly after labor begins. Reiki can help ease any anxiety and provide a reduction in lower back and pelvic pain. In addition, working time is reduced. For women who have had multiple pregnancies, Reiki provides relief at home when dealing with other family members. They are not as stressed or irritable.
One of my clients came to see me for Reiki during her pregnancy with her sixth child. A military wife, her husband was serving overseas. His constant Reiki sessions gave him greater inner peace. She was also able to handle things at home with more focus and patience. I often say that if you are in your second or more pregnancies, your connection to that child will be different. The bond between mom and baby is extra special and unique. Now, I am not saying that the mother is going to favor this child over the others. In my experience, I find that when babies receive Reiki in the womb, it is as if they both share a special little secret. Once the baby arrives, and the mother experiences firsthand what she meant, she wishes she had known about Reiki sooner!
I would like to point out that Reiki is also beneficial for parents-to-be. Having Mommy, Daddy and Baby soaking up all the Love and Light is definitely a winning combination!
Be blessed!
