Snacks to burn fat – The 3 rules

We all know that if we want to be slimmer and sexier we need to eat more. But with the hustle and bustle of life, preparing all those meals can be a real chore. This is where snacks come in.

Consuming 6 real meals can be next to impossible, but having 3 meals and 3 snacks is more than doable for even the busiest among us. So let’s take a look at some simple rules to follow to include some snacks in your routine.

Rule #1 Nutrition

The first rule may sound obvious, but your snacks need to be nutritious. That’s what they need to support their fat burning goals. This means your snacks need to contain the right balance of macronutrients, which is just a big word for protein, carbs, and fat.

The topic of macronutrient balance is huge, in fact too broad for this article, but suffice it to say that balancing them correctly can have a powerful effect on fat loss.

So whatever your current diet plan is, your snacks must adhere to the rules within that plan.

Rule #2 Simplicity

To make snacking part of your lifestyle, simplicity is key. There’s no way you’re going to pause your busy day for a snack if that means 15-minute prep time in the office kitchen or preparing a meal at your desk.

You need to have snacks that can be eaten on the go or with very little effort. This will increase the chances that your snacks will be eaten.

One way to simplify your snacking is to dedicate one morning of the week to food preparation. Prepare all your snacks (and maybe other meals) this morning. Put them all assembled so all you have to do is eat. No assembly at work, or in the car, or even in your home office.

Rule #3 Portability

The last rule is portability. If you work outside the home or are a woman who travels, this rule is crucial. You will need to be able to take your snacks with you. And depending on where you’re going, cooling may be a consideration. Do you have a fridge at work? So you can store your meals there. Otherwise, you’ll need a cooler or choose snacks that won’t spoil.

Your preparation day can also help you a lot in this area. Preparing the food for transport will be key. Pick up a few different sized Ziploc baggies and keep your snacks sealed and separate. Or use some plastic containers. It seems that companies are packaging their cold cuts in resealable Tupperware-type containers. Store them, clean them and use them for your snacks.

Foods that comply with the rules

That said, there are some foods that transport well on their own and meet all of the rules listed above. They are great options for snacking because they are durable and have their own storage system (such as shells and skins). They are natural foods such as:

  • oranges
  • apples
  • Misery
  • almonds
  • Boiled eggs
  • bananas

And some other good pre-packaged options are

  • Yoghurt
  • cottage cheese
  • lunch meat
  • Natural Peanut Butter
  • almond butter

These are simple options that you can combine however you need to get the right combination of macronutrients.
