Security cliches and some expansion of their meanings

Safety slogans and the meaning of some of them.

1) Be Alert – Injured Accidents. One of the things that is so important when it comes to driving safety is that our eyes can never stop moving. We have to be constantly vigilant to look everywhere at once to make sure we see everything we need to see. We can never be lax on this. It is imperative to know what is happening around us to keep ourselves and our families safe. We have to remember that most others will never care as much about our safety and the safety of our family as we do.

2) Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly. I’ve always liked this safety saying. This slogan is an encouragement to slow down and be more attentive to our surroundings. Most Guardian Angels don’t actually fly very fast. They’re too busy trying to keep a bunch of us out of trouble.

3) The best car safety device is a rearview mirror with a cop inside. Isn’t it amazing how when a police officer is seen, everyone slows down and decides to drive well? The police officer or patrol car already knows how fast everyone is going, but most people just slow down anyway. When one is behind a car, the driver of that car seems to get nervous and scared that he will do something wrong and he usually does. Most cops understand that and let minor things slide. However, they generally do not let red lights, stop signs, and speeding pass. These are and can be very serious violations. Most of us have done all three, it’s just that no law enforcement officer has seen us.

4) Politeness is contagious. What a good idea. Have you ever noticed how when you give someone a break, they usually do the same thing over a short distance? Letting someone pull into traffic ahead of you seems to make everyone feel better about the day. You feel good because you let them into the flow of traffic and they feel good because they left their driveway or the end of the ramp. It’s a great way to start a day. It really is contagious. Be good.

5) The Other Guy Always Has the Right of Way. This one can save everyone a lot of time. It can save accidents and money. Insurance rates will not increase if you are not involved in an accident. Never argue with someone about who has the right of way. It just causes a lot more trouble than anyone wants or needs. Just let them go so they are out of your way. This includes even if they decide to run a red light, stop sign, or just pull over in front of you. Even if they pass you by the right shoulder, let them go. not worth it. You may even find that one of those cars with flashing lights will be around and see what’s going on.
