Powerball is a lottery game that first began in 1992 as a replacement for Lotto America. It was introduced to add excitement to games run by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). Wednesday’s drawing was the second-largest jackpot in the game’s history. In October 2015, the Powerball rules were revised to make it more difficult to win the jackpot but improved the odds of winning smaller prizes. In turn, the higher jackpots were able to be won because of this new system.
