Landscaping Blocks Around Trees: Things to Consider

Trees offer many benefits in any given area. You can do a lot of good if you have a lot of them within your property. And to add more charm and design you could have some landscaping blocks around the trees. This way, you can spend an afternoon sitting under a tree completely shaded from the hot sun.

I have seen many gardening blocks of different designs. Each offers its own beauty and charm. And if you want, you can also add a flower bed to surround the tree. Talk about getting the most out of a good landscaping idea.

Building a wall or block around a tree should be done with caution. Otherwise, you could be harmonizing the tree. Here are some practical steps to guide you with this project:

1. Mark the outline of the area where you are going to place the blocks. In this step, you must ensure that you provide the roots of the tree with adequate space for their nutrition. A good distance of 3 to 6 feet from the trunk would suffice, but you also need to take into account the relative size of the tree.

To ensure that the block is built at an even distance, you can tie a rope at the base of the log. You can then simply use this as a guide to mark the area where you will place the blocks around the tree.

2. Once you have defined the circle in which you are going to place the blocks, you should dig down 2-3 inches. Make sure the roots of the tree are not damaged when you do this. After digging, you need to level the area where you will place the blocks. You can use a plate compactor if you have this tool to make this process easier.

3. Establish the base of the block. For this step, you need to select the most uniform blocks you have. put the blocks in their place. In some cases, you may need to adjust the blocks, use a rubber mallet, or even remove it to re-tamp the ground. This is done to ensure that the base is built evenly.

4. Stack the blocks to build the wall around the tree. Make sure that the bricks or blocks are stacked in such a way that it is very strong and durable. A good way to ensure this is to stagger the joints the way most bricks are stacked. This is done to ensure that there are no continuous seams that would make the entire structure likely to collapse easily.

5. Prepare and plant a bed or add some decoration. Some trees allow a plant bed to be added within the wall blocks, while other trees, such as oaks, release acid secretions, making it virtually impossible for any other plants to grow within the ring. In such a case, you can add some designs to the blocks so that they look nice even when they stand alone.
