5 tips to protect your office facilities

You can’t say much about safety that people don’t know yet. We are all aware of the presence of criminals in our society and the threat they pose. Therefore, it is imperative that keeping an eye on your home is no longer an option. Intruders will always look for vulnerabilities, and it is up to you whether you can handle the threat or not.

These days, not only are homes prone to threats, but offices are also being raided by white-collar criminals. Over the years, thieves have also become quite advanced and are implementing new methods to enter properties without alerting anyone. But by no means does it mean that you will sit idle at home doing nothing. Many people take office security for granted for various reasons, but it is the most prone to theft.

So what can you do to protect your office effectively?

• Restrict access: offices should always have restricted access. Having an open door policy on your office premises could prove fatal. There are several visitors who come to an office on a daily basis; keeping track of each of them can be tricky. Precisely for this reason, it is advisable to always grant entry permission to those visitors who have a prior appointment. Do not let in other people who do not have the necessary proof of identification.

• Background Check on Employees – Whenever you are hiring someone new, be sure to check their backgrounds correctly. You don’t want someone in your company with a criminal record.

• Position the reception desk strategically: You should always position your receptionist in a place that overlooks the entrance to your office. This will make it difficult for intruders to enter your main office area without notice from the receptionist.

• Keep office equipment under surveillance: offices contain a large amount of expensive equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines that can be easily stolen if they are not kept in a safe place. You should always put these items in a place that office employees can see at all times.

• Verify Identification of Service Agents – If certain service agents come to your office for jobs like cleaning, plumbing or running any other errand, be sure to verify their ID card correctly. Just because they’re wearing a uniform, don’t let them in.
